Superintendent of Schools
Carl Albano joined the Garrison Union Free School District in July 2020 with over 30 years of experience in public education. From 2016-2020, he served as Superintendent of the Tuckahoe Union Free School District. One of his noteworthy accomplishments was leading the district through a comprehensive strategic planning process, which resulted in revised K-12 curricula, new and innovative courses offerings, expanded co-curricula programs, and increased student achievement. In addition, Mr. Albano successfully planned and managed a $9,987,000 capital project, which added instructional space, repaired infrastructure and enhanced safety. He was Tuckahoe’s Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction & Pupil Personnel Services from 2012-2016, and the Middle School Principal from 2003-2012. Earlier in his career, Mr. Albano served as an elementary assistant principal, high school assistant principal and 5th grade teacher.
Mr. Albano has a Bachelor of Science in Education from Saint John’s University and a Master of Science in Education from Pace University. He continued his graduate studies in School Administration and Supervision at Iona College and Fordham University, and possesses his NYS School District Administrator permanent certification.
Mr. Albano lives in Larchmont, NY with his wife and two children. His wife, Maria, is a special education teacher in the Mamaroneck Union Free School District where their two children, Ava and Carl, attend high school and middle school.
Building Principal
Allison Emig joins Garrison Union Free School District as the school’s new principal in November 2020.
Mrs. Emig comes to GUFS with over 20 years of teaching and leadership experience. She spent four years as a principal at Southern Westchester BOCES leading highly specialized elementary and middle school programs. Prior to BOCES, Mrs. Emig was at Katonah Lewisboro where she began her teaching career and spent 15 years covering most elementary grade levels, including special education, and middle school.
Mrs. Emig’s work as a principal with Southern Westchester Boces centered around creating successful educational programs to fulfill students’ needs across the region. Mr. Albano added, “Allison was a leader through the transition from in-person to remote virtual instruction in the Spring and facilitated the transition back to school this Fall focused on supporting the students, families, and teachers. These skills and experiences will be invaluable to Garrison as we navigate the challenge of today and into the future for our students.”
Mrs. Emig earned a bachelor’s degree in education, with a concentration in special education from Mount Saint Mary College. She received a master’s in science in special education from College of New Rochelle and a leadership diploma from Manhattanville College. She and husband have two children and live in the Wappingers Central School District.
Director of Technology and Innovation
Mr. Yap was appointed the Director of Technology and Innovation in Garrison in the fall of 2022. Before that Mr. Yap was the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction for Warwick Valley from 2014 to 2022. During his tenure there were over 50 new course offerings added at the Middle School and High School level, one to one Chromebook initiative was started, kinesthetic labs were brought into the elementary level, and rich classroom libraries were put into place throughout the district. He also helped the District win the Green Ribbon (a sustainability award given by the federal government) for all 4 schools. James was previously appointed the Director of Technology in July of 2012 at Byram Hills Central School District. He established a Google Apps presence and set the district on a trajectory to be totally cloud based. In 2004, James became the Director of Instructional Technology and Data Management at Ramapo Central School District and held the position for 8 years. In 2011, he was named one of the nation’s top Education Innovators by Converge Magazine. Throughout his tenure, he also helped to create numerous technology-rich units across many different curriculum areas. In 2006, James won the Excellence in Teaching and Learning Award from Apple Computer for helping to implement a one to one laptop initiative at New York School for the Deaf. Before his tenure at Ramapo, he was an educational consultant, helping teachers infuse technology into their curriculum within a problem based learning modality. James Yap started his professional career at American School for the Deaf teaching History and English in American Sign Language. Mr. Yap has spoken at several national and statewide conferences. Including speaking at the National Press Room in Washington DC on the importance of Data Interoperability. He has sat on the board for DATAG (NY Schools Data Analysis Technical Assistance Group) and was the chair for the North American Advisory board of SIF (Standard Interoperability Framework).
Business Administrator
Since 2017, Mr. Jimick has been serving as the School Business Official at the Catskill Central School District. During the 2016-2017 school year, he served as the Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations in the Poughkeepsie City School District. From 2010 through 2016, Mr. Jimick worked at the Brewster Central School District. He began as Deputy Treasurer, and was promoted to Assistant Business Manager.
Mr. Jimick has a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from The Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Marist College. He earned a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Educational Leadership from State University of New York at New Paltz. He possesses his permanent NYS School District Business Leader Professional Certificate.
