History of the School Forest "Ski Hill"

1860

  • North and South Redoubts and surrounding lands purchased by William Henry Osborn.

1950’s

  • School Forest created. Did not include Ski Hill.

1961

  • Ski Hill Rope-Tow constructed by Frederick Henry Osborn, Sr. and Frederick Henry Osborn, Jr.
  • Rope-Tow Building was about ½-way up the hill.
  • The gasoline engine that ran the tow was from an old WWII Jeep.
  • Hot Chocolate Shed with wood-stove was built at the base of the ski hill.

1970

  • Non School Forest lands transferred to Frederick Henry Osborn, Jr.

1979

  • Rope-Tow’s last winter of operations.

1985

  • Ski Hill fenced in for horse grazing.

1991

  • Ski Hill lands transferred to Garrison School Forest.
