Roof Replacement Project and Asbestos Abatement Notification

Posted Date: 10/04/24 (2:30 PM)

Dear Garrison Families and Staff,

We are writing to inform you about an important update regarding our school facilities.

In July, a severe storm caused significant damage to a small section of the roof located above the art room and adjacent hallway in the elementary section of our building. While a temporary fix was made at the time, the District is now commencing a roof project to replace the affected area.

Since this roof section is part of an older wing of the building, minor asbestos abatement will be required. Please be assured that all abatement work will be conducted outdoors. There will be no impact on normal school operations, and there is no health or safety risk to our staff or students.

However, according to New York State Department of Labor regulations, any asbestos abatement must be posted and noticed 10 days before the commencement of work. As a result, you will see abatement notice signs posted on building doors beginning today. We anticipate that this work will begin on or about October 14, 2024.

We want to emphasize that this work poses no health or safety risks to our students or staff and will not disrupt normal school activities.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Sincerely,

Greg Stowell, D.P.S.

Superintendent of Schools

Garrison School District
