GUFS Announces New Environmental Education Coordinator

The Garrison Union Free School District is thrilled to announce that on December 11th, the Garrison Board of Education officially appointed Ms. Christa Buccola Henriquez as the new Environmental Education Coordinator, effective January 6, 2025. This appointment follows an extensive search process that included multiple rounds of interviews, a demonstration lesson, and a comprehensive reference check.

Ms. Buccola Henriquez brings over 12 years of experience as a teacher and professional developer in the New York City School system. She is a National Board Certified Educator and holds a NYS Teacher of Biology certification for Grades 5-9. She has a master's degree in biology and a bachelor's degree in kinesiology.

During her interviews and demonstration lesson, Ms. Buccola Henriquez immediately connected with both staff and students, showcasing her extensive knowledge of environmental science and her ability to engage and inspire those around her. Her passion for sustainability and environmental stewardship aligns perfectly with the district's commitment to fostering a sustainable future through comprehensive environmental education and innovative STEM programs.

We are confident that Mrs Buccola Henriquez’s expertise and enthusiasm will significantly enhance our environmental education and STEM initiatives. We look forward to seeing our students gain valuable knowledge and skills, empowering them to positively impact their community and the environment.
