The Garrison Union Free School District (GUFSD) is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael McDonald as the new Director of Innovation and Learning, effective July 1, 2025.
Michael McDonald brings a wealth of experience to GUFSD, having served as the Executive Director of Mathematics for the Yonkers City School District, one of New York's largest school districts, with approximately 40 schools. With over 12 years of experience in education, including more than four years as a central office administrator, Michael has demonstrated exceptional leadership and a commitment to educational excellence.
Throughout his career, Michael has taught both middle and high school students and has held various leadership roles, including teacher leader, coach, mentor, department facilitator, grade-team leader, Coordinator of Student Activities, and Math Director. His extensive experience in directing mathematics content for the district has been marked by successful collaborations with stakeholders to implement significant changes at both the school and district levels.
Michael's educational philosophy aligns closely with the Garrison Vision of a Graduate, emphasizing the importance of fostering strong relationships with students, setting high expectations, and encouraging students to explore their interests, develop empathy, communicate effectively, and think critically. His current focus on enhancing instructional practices through professional development tailored to adult learning principles will be invaluable to our district.
In addition to his instructional expertise, Michael has been actively engaged with families and community members, ensuring their input is considered in decision-making processes. His diverse roles have equipped him with the skills needed to lead a school or district community effectively.
We are excited to welcome Michael McDonald to the Garrison Union Free School District and look forward to the positive impact he will have on our students, teachers, and community.
