A Warm New Year Welcome & Important Safety Information
- Results of the 2025 School Safety and Security Survey
- New infographic clarifying the Special Patrol Officer’s (SPO) role
- Our continued commitment to transparent communication on safety practices
Happy New Year! I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable holiday break. It has been wonderful to have our students back in the building this week—their energy, curiosity, and joy truly bring our school to life, and we are excited for all that lies ahead in 2026. As we look ahead to a strong start in the new year, I also want to highlight an important update shared at Wednesday night’s Board of Education meeting.
At Wednesday night’s Board of Education meeting, the Board adopted our revised District‑Wide Safety Plan and reviewed the results of the 2025 School Safety & Security Survey conducted by the Hanover Research group. Both the updated plan and the full survey report are now available on our district website under Safety Information.
Overall, the survey results were very positive. Respondents shared that they feel Garrison provides a safe and secure learning environment, and the presence of our Special Patrol Officer (SPO) is viewed favorably by a majority of students, families, and staff. One important recommendation that emerged, however, was the need to further clarify and communicate the specific role of the SPO—particularly for parents/guardians and students.
As one response to this feedback, we have created an infographic that outlines what the SPO’s role is and what it is not. This resource is included with this message and is also posted on our website under Safety Information.

We hope this first step helps strengthen understanding and transparency as we continue our work to support a safe, welcoming school community. In the weeks and months ahead, we will continue expanding our communication efforts to ensure all families are well‑informed about our safety and security practices. Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support—we’re excited for a positive and productive start to the new year together.
Warmly,
Dr. Greg Stowell
Superintendent
Garrison UFSD
